.

Hennepin County / Metropolitan Area

Transit Services

Maple Grove Transit and Metro Transit are the primary transit providers along the 1-94 corridor
in Hennepin County. Maple Grove Transit provides rush hour express service between Maple
Grove and downtown Minneapolis in addition to dial-a-ride service serving the City of Maple
Grove. Four express routes operate Monday through Friday using 19 buses. The dial-a-ride
service utilizes two vans and operates weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m; one van operates
from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays. The service area is primarily within the City
boundaries, however exceptions are made to specific destinations.

Metro Transit also provides express and local service to downtown Minneapolis serving the 1-94
corridor; however north of Brooklyn Center service is limited. Metro Transit operates express
service between Champlin/Anoka and downtown Minneapolis via West River RoadffH 252 and
1-94. Travel between suburbs in the northern portion of the metro such as Coon Rapids to
Brooklyn Park, requires a transfer in downtown Minneapolis and results in extended travel times.
East/west service is a necessary component missing from the existing transit system network in
the metropolitan area.

Transit Centers / Transfer Points

.

Transit centers and transfer points south of Brooklyn Center along the 1-94 corridor exist only in
the downtown Minneapolis area. The 5th Street Transit Station and 7th Street Garage serve as
primary transfer locations in the downtown area; both provide ramp parking enabling customers
to park their vehicle and catch a bus to other downtown areas. Additional Metro Transit
facilities located downtown include a Transit Store, Customer Relations and Lost and Found
Center and two terminals from which vehicles begin/end their routes.

Park-and-Ride Facilities

Park-and-ride facilities in the north metro area and west of the Mississippi River along the 1-94
corridor are also important to identify to move toward a more connected regional transit system.
Planning efforts should be geared toward developing ways to tie into these existing resources.

These existing facilities include the following:

.

.
