Figure 2.2: Primary Hose Pump
The leachate was conveyed through a 2 -inch HPDE line and discharged into the
open channel downstream of the grit chamber. The pump was run continuously
during the duration of the pilot study.
The goal of the pilot study was to pump up to 35,000 gallons per day (25
gallons per minute) of leachate into the wastewater plant. Since the primary
pump could only pump at 21 gpm, a second pump was needed to add an
additional 4 gpm to achieve the desired 25 gpm. The second pump was added
into one of the 21,000 -gallon leachate storage tanks. The second pump was a
small 1 HP submersible pump, capable of producing up to 90 gallons per
minute.
The second pump was positioned in the bottom of one of the 21,000 -gallon
tanks. The pump location can be seen in Figure 2.3. A 2 -inch PVC discharge
line was connected to the pump. To control the flow rate through the 2 -inch
Prepared by: Bolton & Menk, Inc.
