System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) <br /> SAIFI is defined as the average number of instances a customer on the utility system will experience an <br /> interruption during a specific time period. <br /> Since SAIFI is a sustained interruption index, only outages lasting longer than five minutes are included in <br /> the calculations. SAIFI is calculated by dividing the total number of customer interruptions by the average <br /> number of customers served during that time period.
