.

.

.

..

SOME PAST 2001 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Back in the mid 1980's, if you would have told the 2001 Committee about the future
results of its conferences, they would have found it hard to believe. After all, their
purpose was to stimulate thought, and help sort out some priorities for the area. But here
is what happened.

* The Three Rivers Community Foundation
Organized after a conference on the subject, the Foundation has now developed to the point where it
makes annual grants to other area organizations.

* The Citizens League of the Elk River Area
Organized after a 1989 conference to study issues over a longer term, the League's most recent study
made recommendations on the committee structure of Sherburne County govermnent. The League
also sponsors candidate forums, which are broadcast over cable TV.

* The improvement of some park areas, and beautification along Highway 10.

* The presence of young people on some local boards and directorates.

* The Youth Task Force
Organized after a 1992 conference, the Task Force over a three year period developed an action plan
to make this area a better place for youth. The efforts are now being carried on by Partners for
Healthy Communities.

* The 1994 conference on community values.
After this conference, 2001 Committee members formulated plans to make Elk River a more
welcoming community, 10 make meetings more civil and to strengthen families and neighborhoods.

* The 2001 Arts Alliance
Formed after a 1997 conference, which followed a Citizens League report, Why the Elk River Area
Needs the Arts, this spirited group is making plans for an arts festival, called ArtSoup in 1999, and
long range plans for an arts facility.

The 2001 Committee, Inc. currently serves as fiscal agent for the Citizens League,
Partners for Healthy Communities and the 2001 Arts Alliance.

02/99
