As you know, Hennepin County actively participated in the <br />development of the Plan as a member of the Northstar Corridor Development Authority. We <br />have reviewed the Plan from the perspective of Hennepin County and would like to commend the <br />NCDA and the Minnesota Department of Transportation for all their hard work in developing the <br />State's first Advanced Corridor Plan. <br /> <br />Weare excited about the potential of rail serving Northeast Minneapolis and downtown <br />Minneapolis. As you are aware, congestion is a significant issue in Hennepin County and <br />Minneapolis. The commuter rail should alleviate some of the increasing pressures on our road <br />system. Secondly, we believe that the Northstar Corridor will provide a safe, reliable and cost <br />effective alternative for people commuting to jobs in downtown Minneapolis and for those <br />seeking jobs outside Minneapolis in Anoka County and farther north on the Corridor. <br /> <br />Finally, we have reviewed the station design and location for the multi-modal station in <br />downtown Minneapolis with its connection to the Hiawatha LRT Corridor. The commuter <br />rail/LRT connection will provide passengers significant opportunities for travel to major <br />destinations in Hennepin County and along the Northstar Corridor.
