As a member of the Northstar Corridor Development Authority, Anoka
County very actively participated in the development of the Plan. Commissioners McCarron and
Erhart offered comments at the NCDA meetings when the Plan was approved for distribution for
the public. Our staff participated on the Project Management Team review. As a result, Anoka
County has no specific comments or concerns regarding the physical design component of the
Plan.

Nevertheless, Anoka County commends the NCDA and Mn/DOT on the Advanced Corridor Plan.
We recognize that many, many hours of hard work went into the development of the Plan, and that
staff and NCDA members worked very closely with our cities to develop station design and
locations that work well for the communities and for the operation of the commuter rail system.

Anoka County has become seriously concerned about the growing congestion on Highway 10. Our
residents are facing longer and increasingly unsafe commutes. Anoka County and the Anoka
County Regional Railroad Authority have worked hard to offer alternatives and strongly believe that
commuter rail is a critical component of an integrated transportation solution.

The Anoka County stations of Anoka, Coon Rapids and Fridley will well serve our population and
employment centers. Additionally, the commuter rail offers opportunities for a safe and cost
effective commute to jobs and to educational institutions along the Corridor.

Anoka County is committed to making commuter rail a reality and will continue its active
participation on the NCDA as the project moves forward into preliminary engineering.

.

SinCere!,__ _ /

~ -r'!:::Y-~
f-!.Ohn":Jay' MC~
County Administrator

JM:sc

FAX: 763-323-5682 Affirmative Action I EqualsOpportunity Employer TOOmV: 763-323-5289
..
