Elk River Public Library Board Page 4
November 17,2015
IIIChair Dietz talked to Gary Lore and he is looking at the back area on the east
side where a possible roof issue is causing rain to erode the ground,as well as
the north side of the library where rain runoff is eroding the ground.
Chair Dietz will request Gary Lore to provide a written report like Tim
Sevcik for each meeting.
6.5 City Council Report
Councilman Olsen reported that the City is calling in the bonds on the
library;it will be paid off in February 2016.This will save the City$500,000
in interest by paying it off early.
6.6 Patron Services Supervisors Report
Brandi Cantor reported that Mary Eberley is being appointed to the Central
Minnesota Library Exchange (CMLE). The CMLE is one of the regional
library systems within the state;they operate a little differently in that they act
as a clearing house that assists other libraries rather than working directly
with patrons.
There is an opening for a citizen representative to GRRL in Sherburne
iCounty by a vacated position from Big Lake Township.
6.8 GRRL Trustee Report
Mary Eberley reported that Sartell's request for a library is part of a bigger
discussion GRRL has in their library assessment. They have 32 brick/mortar
libraries within the system, yet there are many areas within their six counties
that have no library services at all. They are discussing ways to spread library
services into areas that are poorer and more rural. Options discussed are to
work with these cities and towns to provide bookmobiles, kiosk's and even
library buildings. This is a huge ongoing discussion and one of the basic
things the Board is trying to manage;resources, people, etc. to provide
services.
6.7 Library Services Coordinator Report
Will Hollerich reported on Library Assistant news:
• Jan Connelly reached 20 years work with the GRRL.
• Monica Miller is retiring after 20 years with GRRL. Friends will be
involved in planning a party. She was instrumental with marketing books
with the wire easels promoting books, she also was instrumental in
Collection HQ—a program that keeps inventory moving amongst the
libraries based on popularity and also refreshes popular books that have
IIIbecome dead or grubby.
r....
