In evaluating the risks involved when city employees are participating in <br /> Minn.Stat.§317A.257. outside organizations, it's important to note that state law provides some,but <br /> by no means complete,protection from liability claims for unpaid officers or <br /> members of a nonprofit corporation,. The Federal Volunteer Protection Act <br /> Federal Volunteer also provides some liability protection for volunteers performing services for <br /> Protection Act,Public Law <br /> 105-19. nonprofit or governmental organizations. Again,though, that protection is not <br /> complete and is subject to a number of exceptions. <br /> E. Employment practices <br /> There is not a separate coverage part for employment practices liability <br /> coverage. In other words, LMCIT coverage applies for employment practices <br /> claims even though there is no specific coverage part for it. Most <br /> Equal Employment employment-related claims filed, including administrative charges made to the <br /> Opportunity Commission. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC), the Minnesota <br /> MN Department of Human Department of Human Rights (MDHR), or a local human rights commission, <br /> Rights. are deemed to be claims for damages. <br /> F. Firefighters <br /> See Section II.A,Covered There is no separate coverage part for fire department operations. The basic <br /> parties. Where the city's only role is in regulating, <br /> licensing, or providing public safety services,the city's LMCIT liability <br /> coverage will cover liability the city incurs because of those activities. <br /> 72 <br />
