To: T. John Cunningham, Fire Chief
Zack Carlton, City Planner
From: Cliff Anderson, Fire Marshal
Date: February 12, 2016
Subject: Elk River Lodge and Residential Suites, 17432 Zane St. NXX7
At 9 a.m. on May 1, 2014, Fire Prevention Specialist Jeff Smith and I accompanied Deputy State Fire
Marshal John Gergen to 17432 Zane St NW, commonly known as Elk River Lodge and Residential
Suites, for a re -inspection of the property.
The state had started an inspection on this property on May 27, 2011. Fire Prevention Specialist
Smith and I met Deputy State Fire Marshal Gergen at Elk River Fire Station #I and then drove
separately to 17432 Zane St NW.
The inside vestibule door was secured and we could see that the main desk was unoccupied. No
one came to the door despite repeated knocking. Deputy State Fire Marshal Gergen then called the
number he had listed for'Ibe Briggs Company. He made contact with an individual and he did say
Marla's name in the conversation. He asked for access to the property but the person on the phone
told him the StI-LICtUTe, was no longer a hotel/motel property and he would not get access at that
time.
Deputy State Fire Marshal Gergen ended the conversation by stating that lie would change the
classification of the property as rental property and close the file. Upon ending the call, he turned to
us and stated it now was the city's responsibility for the inspection process.
If you have any questions, please call the at 763.635.1110,
