Strategic Industrial Marketing Activities Update <br /> February 10,2002 <br /> Page 3 of 3 <br /> Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP) <br /> • Staff and AllTool Pinnacle Design&Manufacturing attended a tour of STEP, a new high <br /> school located in the college setting of Anoka-Hennepin Technical College. STEP provides <br /> technical education for 11th and 12``'grade students. Staff will utilize this program to assist <br /> local manufacturers in forming or strengthening partnerships with the college to address <br /> workforce issues. <br /> 2003 Money Breakfast <br /> Please see the attached 2003 Money Breakfast announcement. A flyer for the event is also <br /> posted on the City's web site under the "News &Events" sidebar. The Money Breakfast <br /> will be held at Connections in Big Lake on Wednesday, February 13th from 8:30 to noon. <br /> Presented by the Sherburne County Economic Development Affiance and the Chambers of <br /> Commerce of Becker, Big Lake, Zimmerman,Princeton and Elk River, the 3`d Annual <br /> Money Breakfast is a workshop for new or existing small businesses interested in the latest <br /> financing program/techniques,relocating or expanding, employee retention, etc. <br /> Staff will attend and the Director of Economic Development will speak on TIF,Tax <br /> Abatement, and Venture Capital at the event. <br /> VII. Business Retention Strategy <br /> Business Retention Program <br /> Jeff Gongoll and staff conducted two BRE visits, one with AlltoolPinnacle Design& <br /> • Manufacturing and one with MN Fabrication&Machine. Staff will contact EDA members <br /> individually to schedule future meetings. <br /> Special Event <br /> Please see the attached event announcement. <br /> Staff is hosting a special event with the Economic Development Association of MN <br /> (EDAM) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 from 11:30am-1:30pm at City Hall. The program <br /> will feature the Elk River Business Incubator Program. The Mayor will provide a welcome <br /> at 12:00pm. Please contact staff if you are interested in attending this event so that staff can <br /> handle your registration through EDAM. <br /> The mission of EDAM is to advance the profession of Economic Development. EDAM <br /> offers education and networking opportunities and also monitors legislative activities that <br /> impact Economic Development. The organization is made up of over 200 Economic <br /> Development agencies and related companies. <br />
