MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
CENTRAL REGION
1200 WARNER ROAD
SAINT PAUL, MN 55106
651-259-5800
MNDNR
• Access to the lake from the south or southeast does not appear to exist.
• The site does not lend itself well for vehicular parking by users (as it functions now).
• Consideration could be given to providing a narrow access to the lake, thereby retaining
access to the lake for recreational or aesthetic uses.
• There is a recreational resource value in keeping the road or retaining access to lake in
public ownership to accommodate public access for canoe/kayak carry -in, winter access
(for snowmobiles or other means), shore fishing opportunities, or just allowing the public
a chance to view and enjoy the lake.
Based on the information provided and risking the loss of public access to Lake Orono on the
south side of lake, the DNR opposes the York Street Vacation being considered.
The DNR appreciates the opportunity to comment on the street vacation being considered. We
would appreciate if you would send us the results of the city council action. If requested, the
DNR is prepared to have an Area Team member attend the Public Hearing.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tim Edgeton, Area Supervisor, Division
of Parks and Trails, at tim.edgeton(a)state.mn.us or by phone at 320-223-7861. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Keith Parker
Central Region Director
cc: James Neilson
Nancy Stewart, DNR Program Coordinator
Rich Bruns, DNR District Supervisor
mndnr.gov
PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER CONTAINING A MINIMUM OF 10% POST -CONSUMER WASTE.
 AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
