Parks&Recreation Commission Minutes Page 2 <br /> May 13,2015 <br /> • Mr. Benoit presented his staff report. <br /> Commissioner Nystrom shared that it is a good idea to have them around town. <br /> Commissioner Niziolek suggested revisiting this in a year to see the status of the <br /> projects. <br /> Moved by Commissioner Sagan and seconded by Commissioner Nystrom to <br /> approve the Free Little Library at Lion John Weicht Park and Mississippi <br /> Oaks Park. Motion carried 6-0. <br /> 6.2 Major Park Use - Orono Park- Elk River Food Co-op <br /> Mr. Benoit presented his staff report. <br /> Commissioner Sagan asked if the shelter would be reserved for the group. <br /> Mr. Benoit stated they would use the shelter and park area around it. <br /> Commissioner Niziolek asked for more information regarding the Elk River Food <br /> Co-Op. <br /> Mr. Benoit shared that they are a new organization and are looking to recruit <br /> • members and promote awareness. <br /> Moved by Commissioner Nystrom and seconded by Commissioner Ahlness <br /> to approve the Elk River Food Co-Op major park use at Orono Park. Motion <br /> carried 6-0. <br /> 6.3 Major Park Use - Babcock Park- Mighty Miss Marathon Canoe Race <br /> Mr. Benoit presented his staff report. <br /> Mr. Ring-Jarvi shared more event details and that Babcock Park would be a staging <br /> area for start of race. Stating there will be a rescue boat behind the last boat in both <br /> races. <br /> Commissioner Niziolek suggested waiving the $40 rental fee. <br /> Moved by Commissioner Sagan and seconded by Commissioner Kallemeyn <br /> to approve the Mighty Miss Marathon Canoe Race at Babcock Park. Motion <br /> carried 6-0. <br /> Mr. Benoit shared that staff recommends fees that are black and white and approach <br /> every group the same way. If a group is non-profit they should not be charged and if <br /> the group is for profit we take the blinders off and recommend they be charged in <br /> • order to be fair to everybody that applies. <br /> [ ' urns � r <br /> NATURE <br />
