6WJLHYIRCHITECTS
THE RIGHT EXPERTISE.
The Elk River Multipurpose Events Community Center project incorporates a wide variety of space needs and, with them,
the need to create the best mix of current and future programming that fits the Elk River community's budget today while
providing the services they will need down the road. JLGsport, JLG's dedicated wellness and arena practice studio, along
with Studio Five Architects, offers arguably the broadest community -focused sports and wellness portfolio in the region.
JLGsport and Studio Five Architects are able to draw trends, efficiencies, and best practices from nearly 100 recent related
projects, including the Minnesota Vikings Stadium.
THE RIGHT TEAM,
In addition to JLG and Studio Five Architects, our team includes Ballard*King, the premiere recreation consulting firm in the
country; Stevens Engineering, ice experts; and John Staley, former Director of the Grand Forks Park District and a proven
partnership consultant. Ballard*King specializes in sports feasibility studies, operational audits and assessments, and man-
agement solutions, and has completed similar studies in Minnesota for the communities of Coon Rapids, Rogers, Shakopee,
Shoreview, St. Paul, and Stewartville. The initial cost of an ice system can run up to 15% of the facility construction costs
and use 50% or more of the facility's total energy use. Stevens Engineering is focused on the planning and evaluation of
ice systems, and has created programs that maximize the performance and longevity of the ice system and minimize en-
ergy and operational costs. You can see some of their work at the AMSOIL Area in Duluth, the Brooklyn Park Community
Activity Center, the Burnsville Ice Center, and Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine. As the lead administrator for over 16 years
with the Grand Forks Park District, John Staley worked intimately to develop strategic partnerships and raise funds privately
in order to build tens of millions of dollars in projects without raising local taxes. Today, he works as a partnership consul-
tant, assisting communities like Minot, Park River, and Watford City, North Dakota raise funds necessary for ice arenas and
community centers. He is also a coveted speaker at national conventions about how to raise funds that continue to bring
in dollars even after the initial ask.
THE RIGHT PROCESS.
The greatest of plans will go unrealized without buy -in from the Elk River community. JLG, Studio Five Architects, and
Ballard*King have worked with hundreds of thousands of user groups, visioning committees, and community leaders to cre-
ate and communicate designs that prove need and provide acceptable solutions. JLG's in-house cost estimators are able
to estimate on average within less than 1% of the actual final construction cost (the national average is 9%), so that the
community can trust that what is presented, gets built.
THE RIGHT SOLUTION FOR ELK RIVER,
The JLG / Studio Five team has the expertise and experience to make the future Elk River Multi-purpose Community Center
is right -sized for Elk River; both programmatically and fiscally. We live and work in communities that have faced similar
opportunities and know what this project will mean to Elk River. We have served on volunteer committees (sometimes for
years!) in our own hometowns to see community centers like yours become reality. We know exactly what you are aspiring
to accomplish and we cherish the opportunity to bring our professional and personal experiences alongside yours to help
Elk River realize this vision.
JLG ARCHITECTS I STUDIO FIVE ARCHITECTS 33 CITY OF ELK RIVER
