Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk-Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
November 17,2015 6.1 e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered nine new residential water meters.
• Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from six water services.
• Went on eight service calls.
• Completed 25 BACTIITotal Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria.
• Completed 20 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met MDH standards.
• On October 14,the Water Department lowered Lake Orono and completed the annual
inspection of the Orono Dam. A few deficiencies will need some attention in the future. I
will complete a report and send it to the city so they can develop a future plan.
• I will be hand-delivering letters to all of our commercial customers who own a private
hydrant that are not yet on our private hydrant maintenance program. Out of the 225
private hydrants we've identified, 164 private hydrants are currently on our program.
• Troy and I met with SEH for the design of Filter#9. As soon as the plans are finalized, I
will be giving the commission an update.
• SEH has completed the pilot study for Filter#9. The recommendation for the type of
filter media and the chemicals required will be included with the plans for the new filter.
• We are still working on getting Well#5 up and running. The excessive heat the motor
generated seems to have done more damage than initially thought.
• The Water Operators have continued to repair fire hydrants identified during the
preventative maintenance. To the best of our knowledge, we are at 100%in service rate
for our fire hydrants. Three hydrants were also repaired due to cars hitting them. One
hydrant was hit so hard that it flew approximately thirty feet into the adjacent AutoZone
parking lot. Attached is a photo of the hydrant.
• Angela Hauge continues to validate all of our GIS based water maps. This will help to
ensure that all valves are located on the proper water mains and that there are no valves
or hydrants missing from the map.
PBNEBEB B1
Page 1 of 2 NAIUR
Reliable Public
Power Provider P OWERED T o S ERV E
170
