Elk p, dver

Municipal Utilities

13069 Orono Parkway
Elk River, MN 55330

Item { 2.5.

phone: 763.441.2020
Fax: 763.441.8099

August 16, 2004

To:

Elk River City Council
Elk River Municipal Utilities

From: Bryan Adams

Subject:

Future Sites for Water Facilities

Pat Klaers asked if I would update the City Council on future sites for Water facilities.
Attached is a marked-up city map reflecting the location of our existing and future water
facilities. These facilities are as follows.

Well & Treatment Plant #2 ... 505 Great River Energy Drive
Well & Treatment Plant #3 ... 741 Quinn Avenue
Well & Treatment Plant #4 & Water Tower ... 18586 Gary Street
Well & Treatment Plant #5 & Water Tower ... 19533 Gary Street
Well & Treatment Plant #6 ... 19506 Old Railroad City Trail
Well & Treatment Plant #7 ... 18561 Tyler Street
Well #8 (piped to facility #7 for treatment) ... 11001 190th Avenue NW
Water Tower ... 19119 Freeport Street
Water Tower & possible future well site ... 17721 Johnson Street
Future Well 9 & 10 (piped to facility #5 for treatment) ... 198th Avenue NW
Future Well # 11 (piped to facility #7 for treatment) ... Trout Brook Estates
Future Well #12 & Treatment Facility ... Orrin Thompson Homes Development

Each Well at 1000 gallons per minute or 1.4 million gallons per day, can serve
approximately 750 homes at current usage. Lawn water sprinkling usage is the driving
factor for our water system capacity. See the attached graph. Peak day winter
consumption is approximately 1.2 million gallons per day, which is approximately what
the Waste Water System handles. Peak day summer consumption is approximately 5.3
million gallons per day. The difference is lawn sprinkling.

The timing and extent of the water system expansion from the intersection of 171 st
Avenue and Highway 10 heading southeast along Highway 10 to Ramsey is unknown at
this time. This expansion will probably necessitate a water tower and addition wells.
