• Volunteers provide this service at no cost to low-income homeowners. We <br /> will have over 100 homes that need teams of volunteers to provide <br /> work this summer. <br /> • Homeowners along with all able-bodied residents work side by side <br /> with volunteers. <br /> • Our target neighborhoods for 2002 will include McKinley and Webber- <br /> Camden neighborhoods in North Minneapolis. In South Minneapolis, we will <br /> continue our work in the Midtown and West Phillips neighborhoods. In NE <br /> Minneapolis, we will continue working in the Logan Park and Bottineau <br /> neighborhoods and move into the Holland neighborhood. We will also <br /> continue our work in the Payne/Phalen neighborhood and move into the <br /> Aurora/St. Anthony neighborhood in St. Paul. <br /> • A Brush with Kindness builds long-term partnerships with <br /> neighborhoods and commits to for a period of 3-5 years and usually work <br /> on 50 to 100 homes in a particular neighborhood. <br /> • A Brush with Kindness is part of a collaborative effort of painting; repair and <br /> home building that has the potential to make dramatic improvements on <br /> neighborhoods that are in transition. <br /> Did you know...Twin Cities rents increased an average of 11.5%in the first <br /> three months of 2000 over the same period the year before, to an average <br /> of$742. Minneapolis had the highest percentage increase at 20.4%; St. <br /> TT Paul was second with a rise of 15.5%. <br /> • }, Becoming a Habitat <br /> t. <br /> Homeowner <br /> Who are Habitat Home Owners? <br /> Since Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1985, nearly 400 families <br /> have purchased Habitat homes throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding <br /> suburbs. These families earn monthly gross incomes of approximately $1,300 to <br /> $3,000, preventing them from obtaining traditional mortgages and greatly lessening <br /> their chances of buying a home. Every family who buys a home from Twin Cities <br /> Habitat invests 300-500 hours of "sweat equity," helping to build their own house <br /> and/or other Habitat homes. Twin Cities Habitat then sells them a home at an <br /> affordable price using zero interest mortgages. Monthly mortgage payments are <br /> typically between $450 and $550 and do not exceed 30% of the family's income. <br /> How Do I Become a Habitat Home Owner? <br /> Candidates for Habitat home ownership must be able to answer "yes" to all of the <br /> following: <br /> • The place where I currently live is overcrowded <br /> • The place where I currently live is run-down <br /> • The place where I currently live is too expensive <br /> • • The place where I currently live is temporary <br /> • I have lived in the Twin Cities area for at least 1 year <br />
