The first habitat house <br /> in Sherburne County will be built in Zimmerman. <br /> Further interest in the Habitat for Humanity Program was recently expressed by the HRA. <br /> Staff was directed to research the ways in which other communities have been involved and <br /> assisted in financing Habitat for Humanity projects. Staff researched random communities <br /> and organizations located in the Twin Cities Metro and Central MN that have partnered with <br /> Habitat for Humanity. <br /> Habitat for Humanity does not accept government funding other than land development <br /> assistance. There are various ways in which the following communities helped to finance <br /> their Habitat project, the most common being through the usage of Community <br /> Development Block Grants (CDBG) and the MN Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) <br /> through its HOME funds. The MHFA does not distribute funds to local governments; <br /> rather the MHFA uses its HOME funds to directly fund participants in MHFA's programs. <br /> Community Research <br /> City of Richfield <br /> Funding <br /> • CDBG funds are almost always used <br /> • Second and third options are the usage of MHFA and HOME funds <br /> • <br />
