Page 2 Recreation Board Agenda Memo July 12, 1988 • 6. - "NAME THAT PARK" CONTEST RESULTS According to the material put together by Recreation Board members, the "Name that Park" Contest deadline for entries is July 15, 1988. Applications have been available at the Community Festival, Fourth of July Festival, at City Hall, and at the Public Library. At this time, the entries submitted at City Hall have been somewhat sparse. I have not checked the status of the entries submitted at the Public Library or discussed with Chairman, Mike O'Brian, the number of entries submitted during the Fourth of July Festival . Regardless of the number of entries, this contest should be discussed by the Recreation Board at the upcoming meeting. The Recreation Board should determine an appropriate course of action in order to forward a recommendation to the City Council on proposed park names. 7 .1. - DISCUSSION/WARMING HOUSE Charlie Blesener has informed me that he anticipates having additional information regarding the status of the warming house at Handke pit for the Recreation Board at this meeting. • 7 .2. - DISCUSSION/SOFTBALL LIGHTS At the previous Recreation Board meeting a motion was made which supported the installation of softball lights at the softball complex for the 1989 season. The key issue in installing these lights is financial . This issue will be discussed by the City Council during its 7/18/88 meeting and it is anticipated that the City could budget some monies during the budget process for this 1989 purchase. Whether the lights are purchased at one time or over a five year period is also an issue that will receive City Council attention. Financial particiation by the softball league, plus financial participation by the Municipal Utilities are also factors that need to be addressed. I am assuming that Dave Anderson will have the most information to provide the Recreation Board on this issue. 7.3 . - DISCUSSION/COMPREHENSIVE PARK AND RECREATION PLAN I am not sure how much discussion this particular issue will receive from the Recreation Board, but this is an issue that was continued from the last Recreation Board meeting. This is a long range goal for the Recreation Board and not something that will be accomplished in a short period of time. The Recreation Board may want to combine its discussion of the dump site with this • agenda item and start its Comprehensive Park Plan with discussions on each individual City park. At the last meeting a need for a consultant to advise the Recreation Board on the development of a Comprehensive Plan was discussed. This also would be a City Council budget decision for the 1989 year.
