planning an open house also, but that would be in September or October. Sharon
commented that the Governor needs a 45 day notice for any invitations.
A suggestion was made to have the event on the third Wednesday in September. The
decision was made to come up with the date by the next meeting. If the landfill's
new facility is done, that area could be used for the gathering. Another comment made
was that October would be better.
6. Energy House III — additional funding discussion
The construction costs for this house went approximately $80,000 over budget. An
additional SMBA loan of $50,000 was taken out, leaving the additional $30,000 needing
to be covered. Selling the house, rather than keeping it open for three years, was
discussed previously. Vance stated that he was against this due to the fact that a lot of
the materials were donated and the vendors might want to be reimbursed for their costs
if the house were sold.
Energy City originally gave $5,000 for marketing, some landfill abatement funds were
used, and municipal utilities did something.., building permits fees were waived as well.
A comment was made that there weren't as many donations for this house as in the
past (or hoped for). Rebecca stated that GRE recently gave a $5,000 donation.
The Energy City budget was discussed, Rachel Leonard questioned whether groups
like the Lions have been approached for donations. The Legion, Eagles, Waste
Management, GRE, and the Lions were all identified during a mini-brainstorming
session on how to garner funds for the short fall.
This item was not discussed. It may be talked about at the next meeting.
3.00a=
June 151" is the deadline for the website. Heidi thanked members for submissions and
discussed the brochures. She commented that the committee should plan to make a
motion for the $50,000 at the next (or a future) meeting.
Heidi commented that there is a need for more funding. Rebecca commented on a list
of what GRE and Municipal Utilities has to offer. Gary commented that (at least for
GRE) it's a matter of load management. He added that GRE wants to be heavily
involved in energy efficiency, but it's hard to "incentivise" due to high efficiency
appliances that are already in the market. The challenge now is to save energy rather
than build new power plants.
