depending upon feasibility/cost, etc. She stated that every project that has been
proposed has been changed in some way. As a result, they are proposing 58 points
(with six points possible for negotiation) to ensure that platinum rating can still be
obtained.
Sharon Kampa questioned whether structurally insulated panels have been considered
and shared that the Energy House III project made a believer out of many people on the
commission. Discussion followed regarding curtain walls for day-lighting, etc.
Rachel Leonard discussed the potential for using funds from the landfill surcharge
account for "green" building projects with a cap at two million dollars (based upon
population). She added that only one project per year would be funded and stated that
the library would have a good chance at being funded (partially). Rachel also stated that
the State has given approval for her program's use of the funds. Vance Zehringer stated
that the Commission will be "camped on her doorstep".
Gary Connett stated that the new Minneapolis library has sponsorships throughout and
suggested that this be considered for the library. Gary added that he would "look at" a
GRE sponsorship.
11 11111pqii
a) Budget — Rebecca Haug stated that the total budget has been set at $50,000.00
(tentatively), with totals at $15,000 for food (two lunches, two continental
breakfasts, and one banquet); $25,000 for speakers (hoping for Jimmy Carter
since Will Steger is unavailable); and $3,000 for bussing. She added that it would
be nice to break even, so the costs have been proposed at $100 or $125 for the
two day event. The committee is hoping for 250 people to attend (minimum).
Sharon Kampa commented that she used Vision buses for approximately three
hours at a rate of approximately $200. Rebecca Haug stated that she estimated
high because of the potential for going to Haubenschild's farm and doesn't want
to go over budget.
Vance Zehringer commented that he is having difficulty contacting Jimmy Carter
and asked if anyone had suggestions or connections. Wallace Jensen (KFI)
volunteered to help Vance with connections that he has to possibly help. Vance
expressed thanks to Wallace.
Ron Bratlie requested information on what foods, etc. were desired so that he
could get a better estimate for the committee. He'll also provide custodial cost
estimates as well, An initial rough estimate for custodial costs is approximately
$2,000.
