Attached for your reference is the
February 2, Star News article on these events. If you can attend, please plan to
come early (about 7 a.m.) and, if need be, to park in the Lions Park parking lot.

At this time it appears that we will have about an hour and one half with the
Governor. He is expected to arrive about 7:30 a.m., a pep rally will begin at
8:30 a.m., and he will be on the road to Big Lake by 9:00 a.m. Numerous
community leaders are being invited to the Governor's reception and,
according to Stephanie, it is expected that the main themes of conversation
will be "community" and "citizen involvement." Examples that immediately
come to mind regarding "what makes Elk River a community" include the Boys
and Girls Club success story, the CAER organization, and the response to the
Mark Ahner health/family situation. Other general community issues that are
relevant to discuss include the Northstar Corridor project, the Energy City
program, and the concern over the possible closing of the Anoka-Hennepin
Technical College.

The 5-9 a.m. WCCO morning show is sure to offer a number of surprises. No
one can possibly predict who will be picked out of the crowd to be interviewed,
so all councilmembers and department heads should be ready to go on the
radio for a few minutes and talk about what they do in the community and
"how great it is living in Elk River."

Both events taking place at the same time in Elk River is by design and offers
a rare opportunity that we should not miss to discuss our issues and promote
our community.

13065 Orono Parkway * P.O.
