Elk River City Council Meeting <br />January 24, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />The city administrator indicated that no action on the proposal is required by the <br />City Council at this time. <br /> <br />Mayor Klinzing opened the public hearing. There being no one for or against the <br />matter, Mayor Klinzing closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />4.2. Interview Library Board Applicant <br /> <br />The city clerk noted that Mike Hangaard was unavailable to be interviewed at this <br />time. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER FARBER MOVED TO POSTPONE THE INTERVIEW UNTIL A LATER DATE. <br />COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />4.3. Consider Appointment to Library Board <br /> <br />Mayor Klinzing noted that no action was necessary on this issue at this time. <br /> <br />4.4. Consider Government Cable Producer Position <br /> <br />The city clerk noted that Marissa Lee, the city's Government Cable Producer has <br />indicated that she will be resigning in March. The city clerk requested authorization <br />to hire Kristen Thomas on a part time basis in February at $10.00 per hour and <br />beginning full time in March at $12.00 per hour. She explained the need to <br />increase the 35 hours that have been budgeted for this position to a full time <br />position due to the extra workload since the city has acquired its own <br />governmental channel. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER MOTIN MOVED TO HIRE KRISTEN THOMAS AS THE CITY'S CABLE TV <br />PROGRAMMING PRODUCER ON A PART TIME BASIS IMMEDIATELY FOR $10 PER HOUR <br />AND TO INCREASE HER HOURS TO FULL TIME BEGINNING IN MARCH WITH AN <br />INCREASE IN WAGE TO $12 PER HOUR. COUNCILMEMBER FARBER SECONDED THE <br />MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />4.5. Discuss Custodial Positions for Police Station, City Hall, and Other City Facilities <br /> <br />The city administrator requested authorization to advertise for a half time custodial <br />position, which is consistent with what is in the city budget. He explained that Chris <br />Zerwas, Zerwas Cleaning, has had the contract for cleaning the police station for <br />over ten years and is not interested in working full time for the City of Elk River. <br /> <br />Sue Herrboldt, building maintenance worker, and Phil Hals, street/park <br />superintendent, were present to review this position with the City Council. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON MOVED TO DIRECT STAFF TO ADVERTISE FOR A HALF <br />TIME CUSTODIAL PERSON WHOSE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE CLEANING. <br />COUNCIl. MEMBER FARBER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br /> <br />
