(L.O.I.A.) formed with four committees <br /> • Pollution Control <br /> • Water Safety <br /> • Conservation <br /> • Lake Level Regulation <br /> • Initial public concerns regarding potential sedimentation problem develop by mid 1970's <br /> 1111 <br /> • 1978 DNR ordered lake to be drained due to dam being classified as hazardous, 1979-1980 <br /> dam repair/reconstruction work done <br /> • Problem accelerated in 1978-81 with dam construction and numerous major fluctuations of <br /> water level <br /> • Mid 1980's rapid population growth and improved access to the lake add up to major <br /> increase in boat traffic on Orono <br /> • Mid to late '80's much of North section 2' to 3' depth <br /> • New islands appear <br /> • Increased odors, algae, green surface scum and decreased game fish, <br /> rough fish dominate lake <br /> • 1989-1990 L.O.LA. starts discussion with City of Elk River and DNR regarding issues <br /> • 1990 L.O.I.A. works with City of Elk River and County to develop and implement lake <br /> safety ordinances <br /> • <br />
