LAKE HANSKA <br /> • - A 1800 acre lake of which approximately 200 acres was dredged <br /> Maximum water depth was 6.5 feet and median water depth of 4 feet. <br /> Project-started in 1978 with a feasibility-study conducted by TKDA, a - -------- - -consulting engineering firm <br /> - In 1980, county began an annual levy of$140K. Fund grew to $880K <br /> by 1985. Dredge was purchased in '85 for $140K plus $30-$40K for <br /> a workboat and other equipment. <br /> - Average water depth after dredging was 12 feet. <br /> - Dredging program removed 2,900,000 cu. yards of sediment from <br /> 1985 to 1994. <br /> - The project used county employees. <br /> - Point of contact for additional information is, Chuck Enter, Brown County <br /> Park Coordinator, 507/233-6640 <br /> FIVE ISLAND LAKE <br /> -A 1000 acre lake that was dredged to an average depth of 10-14 feet <br /> Approximately 600 acres will be dredged in total. <br /> - Project was started in 1990 with the support of a $400 bond issue. <br /> Federal and State aid has further supported this project. <br /> - In 1994 they received $400K from the federal Gov't. (EPA Clean Lakes <br /> Fund) <br /> - The first deposit site for silt was filled in 1990 and farmed in 1994 with <br /> corn yielding 150 Bu. per acre. <br /> - Dredging costs are running about $ .40 a cubic yard. <br /> -The restored lake has increased property values significantly. Property <br /> assessed in 1990 at $85K was reassessed in 1994 at $135K was later <br /> sold at $185K. <br /> • - Water quality has improved substantially. <br />
