2.0 <br /> <br /> Membership Candidates <br />(~ Membership in the Department shall be open to any candidate <br /> who is at least eighteen years old, a citizen of Elk River, or the <br /> Elk River fire service area. <br /> <br />2.2 <br /> <br />Candidates for probationary membership shall be selected by <br />the Membership Committee. The Membership Committee shall <br />be comprised of the Chief and all elected and appointed officers. <br /> <br />Final selection of candidates shsll be based on data from written <br />applications, fire fighter skill testing, and personal interviews. <br />Selection criteria shall be based on attributes such as, but not <br />limited to; availabiIiW, response time, physical fitness, <br />education, and occupational skills. Membership shall not be <br />rejected because of the candidate's race, gender, religion, color or <br />national origin. <br /> <br />2.4 <br /> <br />Candidates for probationary membership must pass a physical <br />examination before the beginning of the probationary period. <br />The exsmination will be paid for by the Department. <br /> <br />2.5 <br /> <br />Membership in the Department shsl] be obtsined only after <br />successfully completing a one year probationary period <br />including passing the minimum training requirements of State <br />and federal statutes and meeting the membership <br />Responsibilities of the Department's Duties and Details found in <br />Appendix A of the Bylaws. <br /> <br />2.6 <br /> <br />The Membership Committee shall review, at least quarterly, the <br />progress of the probational candidate toward full membership. <br />Failure of the probational member to comply with the <br />requirements of paragraph 2.5 or show satisfactory progress in <br />education may result in dismissal of the candidate. <br /> <br />2.7 <br /> <br />Membership seniority in the Department will be retroactive to <br />the date of appointment as a probationary member. <br /> <br />2.8 <br /> <br />Former members, who have reapplied for membership and are <br />selected by the Membership Committee, shall meet the training <br />requirements of Section 2.5 that are in effect at the time of their <br />reinstatement. The returning members shall regain their <br />former seniority and benefit classifications. <br /> <br /> <br />
