City Council Minutes
October 20, 2014
Page 11
Councilmember Westgaard stated they are both elegant designs, but he prefers
Option 1 and wondered if Facebook fans would like Option 2 knowing it's twice as
much in costs as Option 1. He stated it's difficult to make decisions on something
when you don't know the cost.
Councilmember Wilson stated he didn't like either option, especially on the amount
of money they could potentially cost, and wondered if they should go back to the
drawing board to fine -tune these options.
Councilmember Burandt also requested a third option.
Mayor Dietz asked if the council would make a motion to approve either option.
No motion was made.
Councilmember Westgaard asked that a third option be provided.
Councilmember Motin stated both options are nice but not something that knocks
his socks off and wasn't supportive using the Facebook comments considering it was
less than 1 % of the city population. He also prefers the city logo be incorporated
into the sign design.
Mayor Dietz also wants to see the city logo incorporated into the sign design. He was
not in favor of either option.
Councilmember Westgaard stated in an effort to provide clear direction to staff was
the signage cost an issue to the other councilmembers or just the design of the sign.
Mayor Dietz stated he doesn't feel a cost for the entire plan has been provided and
that's what he is specifically looking for.
Mr. Portner asked if the council would be open to meeting with Visual
Communications themselves to discuss sign needs and options.
Councilmember Westgaard stated if meeting with Visual Communications would
facilitate some specific direction back to the consultant and staff, a work session may
be valuable.
Council consensus was to request a third sign design option from Visual
Communications and to meet with members of the sign committee and Visual
Communications to discuss ideas and needs of the city's wayfinding signage
programs.
The meeting recessed at 7:51 p.m. and reconvened at 7:5$ p.m. for the work session.
p I W E I E I I Y
,NUKE
