TIME PRESSED
Households are busier, commutes are long, and
schedules are more demanding. Free time is a
rare but highly valued commodity for families.
While parents look for programs that can
keep kids busy during the summer and after
school, they are also less tolerant of programs
and practices that take away from family time
on weekends. Adult commuters will need time
to get back from work before participating in
activities, and scheduling must also reflect that.
Draft 11.25.14
ENVIRONMENTALLY AWARE
From global concerns over climate change and
air pollution to local challenges like invasive
species and watershed protection, people are
increasingly aware of the environment and our
impacts on it. At the same time, people are also
demanding more natural experiences, which
often comes in the form of passive recreation
such as birdwatching, fishing, hiking, hunting,
and nature study. Parks can be a showcase for
environmental best practices such as on -site
stormwater treatment, green buildings, and
habitat restoration.
Chapter 2: Trends
