Signage suggests that there are points <br /> ' of interest not immediately visible from the edge or <br /> gateway. Effective signage and consistent signage <br /> helps visitors navigate around the community. <br /> Design Guidelines <br /> e With the completion of the Mississippi Connections <br /> Plan, further analysis of design guidelines for the <br /> downtown area is key to successful implementation of <br /> the Plan. Design guidelines help to preserve historic <br /> character and to promote a cohesive appearance. <br /> Design guidelines should also be considered as part <br /> -7 of area development and redevelopment efforts <br /> throughout the community. <br /> Downtown <br /> One key facet of the Downtown land use and the <br /> implementation of the Mississippi Connections Plan is <br /> to build on the historical character of Elk River.
