MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD <br /> Independent School District 728 <br /> Elk River, Minnesota <br /> November 12, 1996 <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Gongoll at 7:00 p.m. at the Community <br /> Education Center. <br /> Members Present: Jeffrey Gongoll, Rachel Leonard, Kathleen Poate, Patricia <br /> Scharber, Mark Strater, Therese VanBlarcom <br /> 96-106 Strater moved and Scharber seconded the motion to approve <br /> minutes of the Regular Meeting of October 22, 1996. The motion <br /> was unanimously approved. <br /> 96-107 Leonard moved and Scharber seconded the motion to approve minutes <br /> of the Special Meeting of October 22, 1996. The motion was <br /> unanimously approved. <br /> The list of bills paid was reviewed and filed for audit: General Fund, <br /> $2,730,193.67; Liquid Asset Fund, $2,550,000.00; and Extra Payroll, <br /> $41,616.78. <br /> • Chair Gongoll's Report <br /> • Chair Gongoll appointed himself to serve on the Ice Arena Commission. The <br /> City of Elk River established the Commission to make recommendations to the <br /> City Council on the development and operation of the ice arena complex. <br /> • School Board Member Reports <br /> • Poate acknowledged the passing of Harold Palm. He was a valued member of this <br /> community and to the Community Education Advisory Council. He will be truly <br /> missed. <br /> • Scharber mentioned that she occasionally volunteers in the VandenBerge Media <br /> Center. She asked whether our district has a plan to train secondary students on <br /> the Internet. Bruce Powers, Administrator of District Technology, responded that <br /> a plan is in place to provide training to all media specialists. The specialists will <br /> then be available to assist the students in the media center. Superintendent <br /> Flannery suggested that an inservice be provided to School Board members on <br /> how the Internet can be used in education. He will arrange an inservice prior to a <br /> regularly scheduled meeting. <br />
