Separation from Employment <br /> Resignation <br /> Proper notice is required for resignation. Employees resigning city employment must <br /> submit a written resignation to their supervisor at least ten (10) working days prior to the <br /> anticipated resignation date; department directors must provide twenty (20) working days <br /> written notice to the city administrator prior to the anticipated resignation date. Only actual <br /> work days may be used for proper notice, use of vacation, sick or compensatory time for <br /> proper notice is prohibited. <br /> With proper notice, the employee will be compensated for any accrued, unused vacation <br /> time s/he was eligible to use during that year. If eligible, s/he may also be compensated for <br /> a portion of banked sick leave as stated in the Severance Pay Section of this policy manual. <br /> Non-exempt employees will be compensated for any accrued but unused compensatory <br /> time as of the date of separation. <br /> An unauthorized absence from work for a period of three (3) or more working days may be <br /> considered a resignation without proper notice. <br /> Failure to comply with this notice procedure may be considered reason for denying an <br /> employee future employment with the city. <br /> Retirement <br /> Employees who retire from employment may be eligible for retirement programs as <br /> provided by state or federal law. <br /> Layoffs <br /> The City Council has the authority to lay off any employee when such action becomes <br /> necessary as determined in the city's sole discretion. The city will attempt to provide a ten <br /> (10) working day notice prior to a layoff. <br /> Severance Pay <br /> An employee resigning employment may be eligible for a cash payment for a portion of <br /> unused sick leave if the following conditions are met: <br /> 1. The employee must resign in good standing, not terminated by the city; and <br /> 2. S/he must provide proper notice of resignation as stated above; and <br /> 3. S/he must execute a release of claims; and <br /> 4. S/he must have completed two (2) consecutive years of service. <br /> The severance payment is calculated at fifty percent (50%) of the accumulated sick leave <br /> balance up to a maximum paid of four hundred eighty (480) hours. _Payment shall be at the <br /> 12 <br />
