The funds were collected at the National Day of
Prayer and directed to be used for Parks and Recreation Department purposes. (Item
to come back as a formal resolution at the meeting.
Fireworks
Mayor Dietz stated, with only 45 days before the Independence Day holiday, the
Independence Day Committee has stated they are no longer able to operate the
event due to time commitments. He noted the Economic Development Authority
contributes $6,000 for the fireworks and the city contributes $5,000 of in-kind
contributions and program-related expenses. He stated there wouldn't be any labor
this year because the city would only be hosting the fireworks. He stated the police
chief indicated to him police services would be approximately$800-$1,000 for traffic
management.
Mayor Dietz noted the Committee stated$1,800 of their budget could be used
toward the fireworks this year. He stated the city would have about$12,000 for
purchasing fireworks but for a good display, a total of$15,000 would be needed. He
stated he understands how difficult it is for the Committee to put on an event
because they would rather be with family,go out of town, and not work the whole
day but there would be many disappointed people if there were no fireworks.
P O W E R E D 0 Y
1`4M
