Page 2 lb Contributed to the preservation of the city's history or culture Land of Lakes Choirboys He was a long-time member of the board of directors of the Land of Lakes. Choirboys. John helped them secure land, build a building, appraise properties, advised on other building projects and in general used his skills to save them money. He physically helped with clean-up and maintenance projects at their facilities. Opening his home for hosting of visiting boys, and building props for concerts were other areas where he helped. He actively participated in fundraising, recruiting of other patrons, and in planning the future for this unique group of very talented boys. Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce The Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce benefited from his many hours setting up and working on expos and 4th of July celebrations. While helping the 4th of July celebrations, he also stepped into help the Little Britches Rodeo with his equipment. He set up and took down their rodeo chutes, using his equipment and time to help this youth organization. What ever equipment might be needed was used at no cost. In 2000 the Chamber awarded him and Sandy the Business Person of the Year Award to honor their contributions to the business community and the over all quality of life of the residents of Elk River and the surrounding area. Most work his company performed was within a twenty mile radius of Elk River. John believed that Elk River area should be the best it can be and that whenever possible business should be kept local. John received numerous awards for his building projects. His office walls held the many Star Steel Building awards for Outstanding Dealer. Many of his award winning buildings are in Elk River and surrounding area.
