YXv[cA Update <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Mayor Klinzing provided an update of the January 8, 2004 Northstar YMCA Founder's <br />Committee meeting. Mr. Klaers stated that the Committee is in the process of changing <br />their name. <br /> <br />4.3. NCDA Update <br /> <br />Scott Harlicker provided an update of the Northstar Corridor Commuter Rail project. He <br />stated that the project has been scaled do~vn and the f~rst phase to be complete 5vill be from <br />Minneapolis to Big Lake. l'vLr. Harlicker stated that the Governor has included funds for this <br />project in the 2004 bonding bill. <br /> <br />NIX. Harlicker stated that All Aboard Elk River is planning a rally on February 5, 2004, at <br />7:00 p.m., at the Elk River High School auditorium. He stated that another rally is planned at <br />the state capital on February 26, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. <br /> <br />4.4. Park and Recreation Commission Update <br /> <br />Michele McPherson provided an update of the Park and Recreation Commission's meeting <br />on January 14, 2004. She stated that the Elk River Lions are requesting three signs to be <br />placed on and in the Lions Park Center (LPC) building. <br /> <br />MOVED BY COUNCILMEMBER TVEITE AND SECONDED BY <br />COUNCILMEMBER DIETZ TO APPROVE THE THREE SIGNS FOR LPC. <br />MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kuester stated that she would like to see an explanation of the sign for the <br />"Les Anderson Community Room." She believes it ~vould be good for people to 'know the <br />history of Les Anderson. <br /> <br />Councilmember Mot_in stated that it isn't appropriate for the city to memorialize individuals <br />but felt that in this situation it would be okay as the city has a partnership ~vith the Lions for <br />LPC. <br /> <br />Ms. McPherson stated that the Comrmssion is also requesting approvai of their 2004 Capital <br />Improvement Budget in the amount of $225,000. She provided a breakdown of the budget. <br /> <br />MOVED BY COUNCILMEMBER TVEITE AND SECONDED BY <br />COUNCILMEMBER MOTIN TO APPROVE THE 2004 PARKS CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENT BUDGET. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />Nix. I-Claers noted that the Park and Recreation Capital Improvement Budget does not <br />include funds for the remodeling of LPC that is necessary, when the new Park and <br />Recreation Director is hired this summer. He stated that this project would come to the <br />Council for approval at a future meeting. <br /> <br />Michele Bergh provided an update of programming activities by the Recreation Department. <br /> <br /> <br />
