Special Services Sergeant <br /> River Position Description <br /> Department: Immediate Supervisor: <br /> Police Patrol Captain <br /> Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) <br /> Union Non-exempt 3/2014 <br /> Positions Supervised: <br /> Police Officer, Crime Prevention Specialist, Community Service Officer, Reserve Officer <br /> Position Summary <br /> The Special Services Sergeant works under the direction of the Patrol Captain and the Police Chief; <br /> supervises and coordinates the law enforcement efforts of the patrol officers, crime prevention <br /> specialists, community service officers,and reserve unit. <br /> Essential Functions <br /> 1. Supervises crime prevention specialist, community service officer, and patrol officer duties. <br /> A. Supervises, coordinates, and directs activities of the crime prevention program. <br /> B. Supervises, coordinates, and directs activities of the community service unit. <br /> C. Supervises, directs, and controls animal enforcement activity and dangerous dog <br /> declarations and hearings. <br /> D. Supervises, coordinates, and directs activities of patrol officers as necessary. <br /> E. Supervises and coordinates department participation in multi-jurisdictional traffic <br /> safety activities. <br /> F. Supervises and coordinates the detection of law violations and hazards to public <br /> safety. <br /> G. Schedules workload to maintain high visibility and to ensure adequate response to <br /> emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance. <br /> 2. Coordinates community crime prevention activities. <br /> A. Conducts crime analysis and formulates effective police department responses. <br /> B. Coordinates, directs, and assists with Neighborhood Watch programs. <br /> C. Coordinates, directs, and assists with Night to Unite activities. <br /> 3. Coordinates and performs traffic law enforcement duties. <br /> A. Conducts traffic safety analysis and formulates effective police department responses <br /> to traffic violations and motor vehicle crashes. <br /> B. Coordinates the enforcement of traffic laws including laws governing the operation <br /> of motor vehicles and their operators and laws relating to bicycle and pedestrian <br /> traffic. <br /> C. Observes and corrects hazards to motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic. <br /> D. Assists disabled or distressed motorists. <br /> E. Investigates motor vehicle accidents. <br /> F. Enforces laws governing the operation of motor vehicles and their operators and <br /> laws relating to bicycle and pedestrian traffic. <br /> Page 1 <br />
