Background/Discussion On August 5, 2013, the City Council directed staff to develop landscaping plans as part of the city beautification initiatives. The two locations being developed are the intersection of Highway 10 and Jackson Street, and the southern face of the railroad bridge embankment at northbound 169. As part of the project,the Council also authorized the exploration of a partnership with MnDOT to assist with the funding of project materials. The partnership will reimburse the city a portion of the money spent on materials purchased as part of the project,up to $3,000. The city may pursue additional funding for future projects,with the opportunity for an increase in value. The application must be submitted by January 31, 2014, for construction the following spring. In order to enter into the agreement,MnDOT's Landscaping Partnership Program requires a resolution from the city. The resolution includes a statement of authorization and designates a project representative to work with MnDOT. Financial Impact The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes $60,000 in 2014 for intersection improvements,including funding from the 2013 CIP transferred to 2014 for the above landscaping projects.
