Providing $16 billion in 1996 wages; and, <br /> <br />Manufacturing produces $27.1 billion for the state economy and is the <br />largest single share (19.2%) of our gross total product; and, <br /> <br />Manufacturing exports brought nearly $9.53 billion into the <br />Minnesota economy in 1997; and, <br /> <br />Manufacturing provides high skill, high wage jobs which significantly <br />contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living and economic <br />vitality; and, <br /> <br />Manufacturing contributed nearly $216 million in corporate income <br />taxes in Minnesota, more than any other business sector, and almost <br />28 percent of total corporate income taxes in 1998; and, <br /> <br />Manufacturing employment in Elk River is estimated to be <br />approximately 1,100, such jobs creating substantial benefit to our <br />communities economy. <br /> <br />Now, Therefore, I, Henry A.
