Elk River City Council Minutes <br />October 12, 1998 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />5.3. <br /> <br />5.3. <br /> <br />5.4. <br /> <br />Review Auburn Street Proposal <br /> <br />Terry Maurer indicated that the City Council authorized the installation of two <br />speed bumps on Auburn Street. He stated that the bumps have not been <br />installed due to opposition from the neighbors in the area. Terry Maurer indicated <br />that he met with a few of the neighbors who are interested in exploring other <br />opportunities to alleviate the amount and speed of traffic on Auburn Street. One <br />of the issues discussed was the possibility of installing cul-de-sacs in the street from <br />the nodh and the south, eliminating the cut through traffic. Terry Maurer <br />indicated that an issue with the installation of cul-de-sacs would be the <br />responsibility for payment of the improvement. Terry Maurer indicated that the <br />developer is not interested in paying for the installation of cul-de-sacs. After <br />discussion it was the consensus of the Council to hold a neighborhood <br />informational meeting to determine whether the residents are in favor of this <br />option and if they would be willing to pay for the installation of cul-de-sacs. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON MOVED TO HOLD AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING FOR <br />RESIDENTS ON AUBURN STREET REGARDING THE AMOUNT AND SPEED OF TRAFFIC ON <br />AUBURN STREET. COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE <br />MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />Stop Si,cln Study on Dod.qe Street/189th Avenue <br /> <br />City Engineer Terry Maurer indicated that the City Council authorized an all-way <br />stop sign warrant study for the intersection of 189th Avenue and Dodge Street. <br />Terry Maurer stated that after the study was completed it was determined that <br />none of the warrants for multi stop control were met and recommended that stop <br />signs on Dodge Street are not warranted. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON MOVED TO DENY THE INSTALLATION OF A FOUR WAY <br />STOP SIGN AT DODGE STREET AND 189TM AVENUE BASED ON THE RECOMMENDATION <br />FROM THE CITY ENGINEER. COUNCILMEMBER DIETZ SECONDED THE MOTION. THE <br />MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />Stop Si,qn Study on 3rd Street and Gates Avenue <br /> <br />City Engineer Terry Maurer indicated that the City Council authorized a stop sign <br />study to be conducted at the 3~d Street and Gates Avenue intersection. Terry <br />Maurer indicated that after the study was completed it was determined that <br />none of the warrants for the multi way stop control were met at this intersection. <br />He recommended that stop signs not be added at northbound and southbound <br />Gates Avenue at this time. <br /> <br />COUNClLMEMBER DIETZ MOVED THAT NO STOP SIGNS BE ADDED AT THE <br />INTERSECTION OF 3"D STREET AND GATES AVENUE BASED ON THE <br />RECOMMENDATION OF THE CITY ENGINEER. COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0-1. Coun¢ilmember Holmgren <br />abstained. <br /> <br /> <br />
