Miller, Jessica
From: Annie Deckert <annie @decklangroup.com>
Sent: Monday, November 11, 2013 10:31 AM
To: Carlton, Zachary
Cc: Fischer, Suzanne; Portner, Cal
Subject: Planning Commission meeting 11-12-13
Good morning,
After reading through the Planning Commission's packet for Tuesday's meeting and seeing staff's comments I think it is very
important that you understand that this sign is not being placed in a "foot traffic thoroughfare" and it is no way meant to try and
capitalize on traffic that is already on Main Street, either in a vehicle or on foot. The point and purpose of this sign is to gain the
attention and make Downtown's presence known to motorists traveling West bound on Hwy 10 who might otherwise never be
exposed to what Main Street has to offer. The sign dimensions outlined in the Planning Commission packet would offer little to no
visibility from West Bound Hwy 10. Again, Downtown businesses have no need to further advertise to traffic and pedestrians that
are already on Main Street with this type of signage.
I would like to remind you that this project has the overwhelming support of the Downtown District, The Downtown River's Edge
Business Association, The Historic Preservation Commission, The Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce, and numerous
respected and prolific Elk River residents. We have yet to be given any reason why this project cannot happen, or should not
happen.
Below are a couple of options to consider which would result in Granite Shores building a sign to meet their needs, while
addressing staff's concerns.
Sec. 30-872. DD downtown district
(b)
(18)-One monument sign per permitted multi-tenant property. A total of.50 feet in height per one linear foot of primary structure
height not to exceed 20 feet in height. A total of.30 square feet per one lineal foot of primary structure width not to exceed 80
square feet in sign face area. Sign face may consist of changeable copy or animated signage.
This could also read:
(b)
(18)-One monument sign per permitted multi-tenant property. A total of one foot in height per two linear foot of primary
structure height not to exceed 20 feet in height. A total of one square foot per three lineal feet of primary structure width not to
exceed 80 square feet in sign face area. Sign face may consist of changeable copy or animated signage.
1
