Park It Recreation Commission Minutes Page 2 <br /> June 12,2013 <br /> Elk River Golf Club President,Mark Conrad shared that an adjacent 36 acre parcel just sold <br /> to become housing. The Elk River Golf Club's number one goal is to keep the area a green <br /> space and would like to know what interest the city has in securing the 18 acres that Mr. <br /> Schultz spoke about in his presentation. <br /> Commissioner Anderson questioned if the board was interested in selling the entire golf <br /> course. <br /> Mr. Conrad clarified that the Elk River Golf Club was there to discuss the 18 acres and <br /> would have to go back to the Elk River Golf Club in regards to the entire golf course. <br /> Commissioner Anderson shared that purchasing the 18 acres with a DNR grant was <br /> attempted in the past however;it did not fit the DNR's criteria. The Elk River Golf Club is <br /> a great asset to the community and it would be nice to find a way to purchase it to keep it <br /> from becoming housing. <br /> 5. Park Highlight <br /> Parks and Recreation Director,Michael Hecker invited the commission members to the <br /> Grand Opening of the Orono Playground and shared that the playground and the <br /> maintenance facility would be a part of a MRPA tour in August. <br /> 6. Program High ight <br /> Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit and Commissioner Anderson shared a slide show about <br /> the Woodland Trails Prairie bum. <br /> 7. Action Items <br /> 7.A. Major Park Use - Woodland Trails Park <br /> Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit presented a major park use request to hold a 5k <br /> Run/Walk fundraiser in Woodland Trails Park. <br /> Commissioner Anderson asked if 100% of the proceeds would go to the DTN Ministries <br /> charity and that the group should work with staff to lay out the race trail. <br /> Susie Wiegel, group representative stated the all the proceeds would go to the charity. <br /> Commissioner Niziolek stated that the group should only use cones and no rope should be <br /> draped across the trail. <br /> Commissioner Holmgren asked if it was common to waive park use fees. <br /> Commissioner Anderson explained that it was common to waive park use fees for <br /> fundraising types of events; it is a way to help out those who are willing to volunteer their <br /> time to raise funds for local charities. <br />
