Minnesota State Statute requires our CIP programs entail 1.5%of our gross electrical
revenues which is estimated to be $172,200. Because of Great River Energy's
contribution, Elk River Municipal Utilities must fund $145,865. In 2003, our budget
contained $113,430 which is 7/12 of a years CIP commitment. The big changes for 2004,
is the addition of the following 3 programs:
Habitat for Humanity
Tri-Cap Weatherization
Plant A Tree
The plant a tree program, is providing to residential customers, up to 150-2" balled and
burlap trees to be planted on the south or west side of their homes to provide shade.
Trees would be allocated by either lottery or first come-first serve, one tree per
household. This program not only provides energy savings from shade, it also is a great
public relations tool. The reason we are bringing up this issue now is if this program is
acceptable to you,we need to secure the 150 trees for spring 2004 delivery.
