This sign will be utilized to advertise available space in the building, as well as businesses (within
Granite Shores). In addition, Mr. Soderberg, owner of the Granite Shores property, is offering to utilize the sign (up to
20Y6 of the time)to advertise community events downtown, including, but not limited to,Thursday concerts in River's
Edge Commons, all Elk River Parks & Recreation events(Chalk-it-Up, Kidstock, Movies in the Park), Farmer's Market, Elk
River Area Arts Alliance events, Reading Frenzy events, Downtown River's Edge Sidewalk Sales,Trick-or-Treat and Santa
in the Park and McCoy's Annual St. Patrick's Day 5k for CAER,
The City of Elk River has already invested a considerable amount of time and money into downtown Elk River which
include, but are not limited to the following:, numerous TIF districts, reinvestment through Micro loans (Nicole's Salon,
Daddy-Os, Blue Egg Bakery, Waterfall Salon, Olde Main Eatery, Diamond City Bread, Sweet P's Candies & Ice Cream,
Nicole's Salon Pompeii Pizzeria, etc.), River's Edge Commons Park and recently Main Street Parking Plaza (includes
acquisition/demolition of two buildings, and construction of new parking lot)
Not only has there been extensive public and private investment, but city staff, outside consultants and businesses and
downtown Elk River businesses have spent considerable time to ensure downtown Elk River thrives. Recent city studies
have concluded that with recent and future changes to US HWY 10/169,the downtown is in need of new ways to draw
people to the core of downtown Elk River through festivals, events, existing and new businesses.
The proposed sign will assist in drawing people into downtown Elk River to patronize local businesses, and support
community events, in addition to promoting available vacant space downtown.
This letter indicates my full support for this project. Denying this sign is going against all the time and money the City
has invested thus far into the downtown and various community plans throughout the years. It also gives the
impression the City does not support local business and has a negative impact on any pro-business atmosphere the City
is trying to achieve.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully
^'f /T . - - ----
Represeive Nick Zerwas, District 30A
