NORTHSTAR YMCA
FOUNDERS' COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR MEETING OF DECEMBER 11, 2003

Members Attending: Pat Klaers, Bill Helliwell, Cedric Olson, Nick Haidos, Ed
Stoutenburg, Deb Hunter, Suzanne Kostanshek, Ron Touchette, Tom McKinney.

Chair Helliwell called the meeting to order at 7:10 am.
Minutes for meeting of November 13, 2003 were approved.

Committee Reports:

1) Program Committee: Ken Ebel was absent but prepared an update that was
presented by Bill Helliwell. The program committee met on 12/3/03. The grant request
to the Sherburne County Mental Health Collaborative for $10,000 to fund the NYPUM
program has been approved.
There still is no progress on the Academic Learning Program or Youth in
Government and time is running out on starting these programs for the school year. It
was reported that Community Education was operating a similar tutoring program but
was struggling with the transportation issue.
RSVP is still helping with advertising for a volunteer coordinator.
Ken will be working on making a list of potential program contributors from the
community.

2) Communications Committee: Ed Stoutenburg reported that they had met on
11/20 and 12/4 and had worked on a small article on the YMCA to be given to the ER
Star News. Also, they planned to work on members to give updates to the various
community organizations and boards from the list put together by Deb Hunter.
Joni Lawrence talked about signs and/or banners to be displayed in Elk River.
There was some question about sign permits that need to be pursued before a decision
was made.

3) Strategic Planning Task Group: Ron Touchette reported that we are still
waiting for a timing update from Tom McKinney and Robie Wayne to begin the
Founders Campaign recruitment.

4) Finance Committee: Nick Haidos reported that the Temporary Restricted Fund
has been set up and the checks collected were sent to be deposited. The current balance
is $500, and is to be used for previously budgeted items.
