A
WSBa proposal to provide professional services for the Elk River comprehensive plan update —
CAC Open Houses
While all CAC meetings will be open to the public, WSB proposes
to hold two public open houses throughout the planning process.
We have successfully held community open houses in many
k a different forums. We recommend using a model of holding a large
open house for the entire community. In this model, we make the
community open house a big, fun event where each element of the
i Comprehensive Plan has its own table for questions and comments.
We also work with the community to arrange door prizes and fun
events related to the planning process. The goal of our open houses
is not to simply present information (inform), but to promote dialog
with the public about the planning process (involve/empower).
Wd K%ffl__
Kickoff Open House — Explain comprehensive planning process
and gather feedback on issue, concerns, and opportunities
Follow-Up Open House — Provide up-to-date Plan information,
including future land use plans, visions, goals, objectives, and
i .
policies
1
Planning Commission and City Council (2 meetings)
Public hearing on the Draft Comprehensive Plan to the Planning
Community chalkboards can be a way Commission for recommendation
for continuous public participation and Present Final Comprehensive Plan to the City Council for
resident interaction. Chalkboards could adoption
be done along key pedestrian corridors
or plazas.
Other Communication
Fpd MPAFRENSIVE Inform PLAN — Project website (we can host or provide information
"'°"•• to the City)
— Facebook page
Bookmark — Newsletter articl es
distributed at the ha[Do You Think!ty of NfA—d'fs vdxiug library to inform Prahrns;vePlva.I,.eFlaa — Project posters for City Hall and Library
udde d=roamem m residents of ,,,e,la =I e e,« ,,,.p^ =„rh=nn- A.= — Bookmarks at schools and Library
upcoming open ,are„ „ad houses. <«„,<<fYN= „,„"'' ERtV Channel 12 announcement assistance
Open House ry,+naidamma ny Consult/Involve/Empower
C,,,m iew P=amass oa C,.npre6ensive Plmn.,,'8,zo6S Public meetings
OO V;UO PM f,Hall-600 S[illwMl RrJ
— Open houses
— Interviews
AddifioqaIlMnrmago
Norman G,fo=matfon and an
 „alNmuairy[o providem'eents,
p+eare visiroar we6sire o0.:
ai zan•bWcnmr,oR,.edi.Aomehm
SconV lso wnrnch
— sneilsan n,['ity`r`d'n'nis
Cai.mahromedi.mwr _
Phone:[65]?-026-3q.y'Us
Project Approach / 8
