MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER <br /> ENERGY CITY VISIONARY SUBCOMMITTEE <br /> HELD AT THE ELK RIVER CITY HALL <br /> FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 2013 <br /> Members Present: Commissioners John Setala,Steve Rolilf,Bruce Sayler and Matt Westgaard <br /> Members Absent: None <br /> Staff Present: Environmental Administrator Rebecca Haug <br /> 1. Call Meeting To Order <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof,the meeting of the Elk River Energy City Visionary <br /> Subcommittee was called to order at 8:35 a.rn. <br /> 2. Consider Agenda <br /> No changes were made to the agenda, <br /> 3. Strategic Planning <br /> The subcommittee developed a mission statement for the Energy City Commission. The <br /> mission statement is: "The evaluation,promotion and implementation of technologies and <br /> processes that provide energy value to the Elk River Community through collaborative <br /> efforts." The vision remained the same from the previous meeting which is: "Make Elk <br /> River the most energy responsible city in Minnesota." <br /> Goals for the next 1—3 years were discussed and included ideas such as: <br /> • Review of the micro loan program and energy efficiency portion create bonus <br /> points for energy efficiency <br /> • Partner with city staff and other commissions to increase energy efficient <br /> technologies (ie.Lights and solar at YAC) <br /> • Demonstration at Hockey Day MN (ie.Solar power for concessions) <br /> • Amend ordinance to not be so specific for commission members <br /> • Hydro Power at the dam <br /> • Waste Steam Project with GRE <br /> • Fuels cells—possible demonstration storing hydrogen <br /> • Storage for wind energy project <br /> • Work with schools on energy related curriculum <br /> • Promotion of activities and achievements with the media <br /> Main Goal: Big splash demonstration <br /> The goals will be reviewed on an annual basis and benchmarked. <br /> At the next meeting,the subcommittee will look at developing a work plan. The work plan <br /> will look at the big picture and what other communities are doing such as Vancouver's <br />
