SECTION 5.0 COST ESTIMATE
5.1 GENERAL
In order to prepare the preliminary construction cost estimates presented herein, various
material and equipment manufacturers and suppliers were contacted. Published and
unpublished data on costs for similar kinds of construction were also utilized.
The estimated costs are for January 2013. Increases in construction costs due to inflation
are not taken into account. The cost estimates presented here are intended for use as a
guideline in the decision process. Once preparation of final drawings and specifications is
underway, more refined cost estimates will become available.
5.2 LIQUID STREAM IMPROVEMENTS
The preliminary cost estimates for the liquid stream improvements for Options No. 1 and
No. 2 are presented in Table 5.1. As shown, the line items that have a cost difference for
the two options are the aerations basins, blowers, fine pore diffusers, UV system, and the
electrical/control system. These cost differences are attributed to the larger aeration basin
size and new UV system required for Design Option No. 2 design flows.
City of Elk River—T12.104758 Page 27
Wastewater Treatment Facility Plan Prepared by Bolton&Menk,Inc.
