2.4.2. Projected Wastewater Flows
Future wastewater flows were estimated using user projections based on land use
classifications. The Ten States Standard of 100 gallons per capita per day was used in
projection of flows. The wastewater flows were projected for two design options.
Design Option No. 1 = Urban Service Area Only
Design Option No. 2 = Urban Service Area& Outside Developments
From here onward the above two options will be referred to as "Design Option No. 1" and
"Design Option No. 2" in this report.
The ADW flow for the design year 2035 was calculated by adding the existing flow to
flow from projected areas of developments and flow from un-sewered connections. The
AWW flows were projected using an AWW/ADW flow ratio of 1.14. Peak Hourly Wet
Weather (PHWW) flows were calculated by multiplying AWW flows by a peaking factor
of 1.60, which was calculated from existing flow data. To calculate Peak Instantaneous
Wet Weather (PIWW) flow the peaking factor was increased by 25 percent to provide a
peaking factor of 2.0. Detailed calculations for flow projections are provided in Appendix
A. A summary of projected flows is given in Table 2.3 for both design options.
Table 2.3
Summary of Projected Flows
Elk River Wastewater Treatment Facility
Design Option No. 1 Design Option No. 2
ADW MGD 3.11 ADW MGD 3.98
AWW MGD 3.55 AWW MGD 4.54
PHWW MGD 5.68 PHWW MGD 7.27
PIWW MGD 7.10 PIWW MGD 9.08
City of Elk River—T12.104758 Page 5
Wastewater Treatment Facility Plan Prepared by Bolton&Menk,Inc.
