Mississippi River Trail as a United States Bicycle Route Resolution <br /> Parks and Recreation Director,Michael Hecker shared that last November both the Parks <br /> and Recreation Commission and City Council approved a letter of support and a resolution <br /> for the Mississippi River Trail(MRT). Resolution 11-70. The success of this recognition <br /> was recognized this past summer when 140 people biked and stopped in downtown Elk <br /> River for lunch. Another resolution for the MRT is needed,using a template that specifically <br /> refers to the United States Bicycle Route 45 for the American Association of State Highway <br /> and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). ASHTO is the governing authority for route <br /> designation and the resolution is needed by them for each local community segment along <br /> the route to make the entire MRT an official route. <br /> MOVED BY COMMISSIONER NYSTROM AND SECONDED BY <br /> COMMISSIONER KARLSEN TO RECOMMEND TO CITY COUNCIL TO <br /> ACCEPT STAFF RECOMMENDATION TO SUPPORT THE MISSISSIPPI <br /> RIVER TRAIL RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE CORRIDOR AS THE <br /> UNITED STATES BIKE ROUTE 45 FOR THE AMERICAN ASSOCITAITON <br /> OF STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION OFFICIALS(AASHTO). <br /> MOTION CARRIED 7-0. <br /> 8. Parks &Recreation Director Report <br /> Parks and Recreation Director,Michael Hecker shared a few highlights of the department's <br /> activities during August. Sharing that the City Council approved to work with the school <br /> district in connecting to city water at Oak Knoll Park as the well is drying up. <br /> Mr. Hecker reported that there were some unforeseen costs of$1,400 for electrical work <br /> regarding the donated scoreboard at the Youth Athletic Complex football field. <br /> Mr. Hecker also recommended the Parks and Recreation Commission have a work session <br /> the first week in October to discuss the department's 2013 capital improvement plan. <br /> MOVED BY COMMISSIONER KALLEMEYN AND SECONDED BY <br /> COMMISSIONER SAGAN TO HOLD A SPECIAL PARKS AND RECREATION <br /> COMMISSION WORK SESSION ON OCTOBER 3RD AT 6:30PM.
