(LPI) Invests $15 Million in Becker Paper Mill
LPI makes paper for packaging by recycling over 250,000 tons of corrugated
ffi
-sue. containers each year. Later this year the company will begin
pretreating an estimated 550,000 gallons of wastewater daily. A new anaerobic digester will
produce methane gas, which will be captured and used to generate electricity for the paper mill.
The investment in pre-treatment will enable the company to expand production capacity on site.
The project represents a cooperative effort involving Liberty Paper and a number of community
partners. Sherburne County, the City of Becker and Little Falls-based Initiative Foundation
convened a variety of potential funding partners, including the St. Paul Port Authority. The Port
provided unique expertise related to anaerobic digesters and energy generation and played a
critical role in financing the project.
The facility is the largest single capital investment LPI has made since the paper mill was opened
1/3
