ELK RIVER, MN 55330 (763) 635 - 1141 Fax (763) 635 - 1144 To: Mayor and City Council From: Rich Czech, Arena Manager Date: October 20, 2003 Subject: Ice Arena Barn Update / Demolition of the Barn's Floor The initial schedule had us starting up the Barn Thursday, October 16th. Due to the lack of a vacuum on the floor we will be starting up the Barn on Sunday, October 19th. I should have an idea where the Barn's at by Monday, October 20th. I'm planning on attending the council meeting that night to give an update on the status of the Barn. At that time we may be able to decide whether or not we need to award the demolition of the Barn's floor or if we should wait until the following council meeting to award the work. Waiting until the next council meeting (October 27th) to award the demolition of the Barn's floor should not extend the completion date of the installation of the new floor and boards if they are needed. For your review I have included a copy of the four quotes we received for the demolition of the rink floor. As you can see, Minneapolis Concrete Sawing and Drilling was the lowest quote. Minneapolis Concrete Sawing and Drilling has removed several rink floors, and is qualified for this project. The Arena staff and the S.T.S. (Sentence to Serve) group will remove the existing boards before the demolition of the rink floor. If it's determine that the Barn's floor needs to be removed, I would recommend Minneapolis Concrete Sawing and Drilling be awarded the job.
