Elk River
Municipal Utilities
13069 Orono Parkway
P.O. Box 430
Elk River, MN 55330
(763) 441-2020
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance Director
John Dietz, Chair
Daryl Thompson, Vice Chair
Allan Nadeau, Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 9, 2012 6.1
SUBJECT:
Staff Updates
DISCUSSION:
We had 1633 credit card payment transactions in September, compared to 1698 in August, which
is the second month in a row with a slight decrease. I would expect next month to see an
increase in usage again as the customers bring their accounts current before the Cold Weather
Rule is effective. The fee for September should be $3,674.25.
This year Customer Service Week was October lm through October 7`s. It is a week every year
that the staff providing customer service are rewarded and thanked for their dedicated service to
our customers. Many times customer service is a thankless job and irritable people can
negatively bring down a person's outlook or self-worth. To show our appreciation for a job well
done, lunch was provided on Wednesday and small tokens of appreciation were distributed
throughout the week.
There has been work to do for 2012 year end, and next year's preparation for insurances. There
are changes relating to health care reform that affect us and are being implemented such as 2012
W2 reporting for health insurance amounts, changes in the limit of the 2013 medical flexible
spending amounts from an employer determined maximum (ERMU was at $3,000) to a federal
defined $2,500 maximum, and the Summary of Benefit Coverage(SBC) report distribution
requirement. We are preparing for these changes and will be working with our broker to make
sure we are in compliance with the reform as policies continue to develop.
I PUFuERE0 BY
I
Reliable Public P O W E R E D T o S E R V E
Power Provider
